What to Expect at Your Prenatal Visit
Prior to your appointment at Insight, you will receive a confirmation email with your appointment date as well as a link to complete your patient intake forms and insurance information. You can also access the intake forms by clicking here.
When you come for your appointment, please make sure to bring your insurance card and a valid driver’s license or state ID. If you have not already completed your patient intake forms, you will need to arrive 15 minutes early.
First-Trimester Nuchal Translucency Ultrasound
Before meeting with the genetic counselor, you will have a specialized ultrasound called a Nuchal Translucency. This ultrasound will screen your pregnancy for a small number of birth defects that can be detected early in pregnancy and is also a part of the screening for chromosome disorders, such as Down syndrome. Please make sure to arrive at your appointment with a full bladder. You are welcome to bring your partner or a family member to this appointment.
Visit with the Genetic Counselor
Your genetic counselor will review the results of your ultrasound and explain your options for prenatal genetic testing. She will also be able to answer any questions you may have about family history and genetic risks.
If you choose to have genetic testing, you will have your blood drawn following your visit with the genetic counselor. Your total visit will last approximately 1.5 hours.
